Quentin Tarantino’s Surprising New Project Gets Title, Release Date Window
Quentin Tarantino‘s surprising new project has received an official title and a release date window.
What is the title and release date window for Quentin Tarantino’s next project?
Tarantino’s next project will be a new stage play titled The Popinjay Cavalier. Described as a “swashbuckling comedy,” The Popinjay Cavalier will be written and directed by Tarantino. Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment are the producers of the play.
“Set in 1830s Europe, The Popinjay Cavalier is a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen,” the official synopsis states. “A sweeping celebration of theatre and its heightened romance, told with Tarantino’s signature style and unmistakable wit.”
The Popinjay Cavalier is in development and plans to open in London’s West End in early 2027. Details involving the cast, theater, and show dates will be announced at a later date.
The play’s official website includes more information on the show and how to sign up for priority booking.
Tarantino mentioned a play as his next project at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
“If you’re wondering what I’m doing right now, I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing,” Tarantino said via NME. “If it’s a fiasco, I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie.”
Tarantino had written the script for his 10th and final movie, The Movie Critic. However, the Oscar winner eventually scrapped that idea in favor of what would become The Popinjay Cavalier.
Speaking of scripts, Tarantino penned the screenplay for The Adventures of Cliff Booth. The upcoming movie stars Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, his Oscar-winning role from Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. David Fincher directed the movie for Netflix. The Adventures of Cliff Booth is scheduled to arrive in 2026.
