Zack Snyder hypes up his Justice League’s fifth anniversary
Director Zack Snyder marked the upcoming fifth anniversary of Zack Snyder’s Justice League with a post on Instagram. He wrote, “Eight days from now we mark the fifth anniversary of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” The filmmaker also shared dialogue from the film: “Diana: ‘You said the age of heroes would never come again.’ Bruce: ‘It will. It has to.’” Snyder added, “Five years later… and the age of heroes still feels very real.”
The post included an image from the Wayne Manor set that the production used while filming the movie. Warner Bros. released the film on the streaming service HBO Max in 2021. The project followed years of fan campaigns urging the studio to release Snyder’s version of the superhero ensemble movie.
Zack Snyder developed Zack Snyder’s Justice League after the theatrical release of Justice League (2017 film). He stepped away from the original production after the death of his daughter, and director Joss Whedon handled extensive reshoots and revisions for the 2017 theatrical version. The theatrical release received significant criticism and performed poorly at the box office.
The later cut restored Snyder’s original vision through additional footage and reshoots. It also expanded the storyline and added scenes that set up potential sequels within the DC Extended Universe. Despite the release of the extended version, Warner Bros. has not announced any live-action continuation.
Snyder previously discussed studio decisions connected to earlier DC films during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Reflecting on the title of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he said, “The studio was very excited about Dawn of Justice. That was important, in the title.” He also stated, “I will say my thing was the trinity is really iconic.”
He continued, “I think that the one thing DC has that Marvel doesn’t have or whatever any other comic book has is Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.” Snyder added, “You don’t have to tell people who they are, you know? They’re just massive IP, like beyond IP. You don’t have to say another word.”
