Andrew Stanton has offered a new update on the production status of Toy Story 5, hinting that the highly anticipated animated sequel is moving closer to completion. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker discussed the current stage of the project and confirmed that the film will soon enter post production.
When asked, “You’re currently working on a summer movie called Toy Story 5,” Stanton playfully responded with, “Yeah, just a little thing.” Addressing whether the team was in the “crunch time right now,” the director said, “No, it’s past crunch time.”
He added, “We’re on the downslope, but we’re going into post in about three weeks. That’ll be a month. Then we’ll finish scoring, and she’ll be done. So it’s been a crazy ride having these two films overlap.”
The update comes shortly after a new trailer for the film was unveiled, giving audiences an early look at the story. The preview shows the reunion of Woody and Buzz Lightyear as they embark on another adventure. Toy Story 5 will once again feature Tom Hanks and Tim Allen returning to voice Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
According to the official synopsis, “The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics!”
Produced by Pixar Animation Studios, Toy Story 5 is scheduled to open in United States theaters on June 19, 2026. The earlier films in the franchise are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
