Michael Biopic’s Colman Domingo Is Hopeful After Paris Jackson Criticism

Paris Jackson, the only daughter of pop icon Michael Jackson, may have slammed her father’s upcoming biopic, but star Colman Domingo believes that the renowned model will eventually come around.

The Euphoria actor, who portrays the late singer’s father, Joe Jackson, admitted that he is hopeful Paris will appreciate how they’ve honored her late father’s legacy in the film, despite her relentless criticism.

During a recent sit-down with WSJ Magazine, Domingo shared his thoughts on Paris Jackson’s review of the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic.

“I hope that she eventually loves the tribute that we made about her father,” the two-time Academy Award nominee said.

Domingo originally relayed to PEOPLE that Paris and her brothers had approved of the film centered around their legendary father. “They’re very much in support of our film,” the actor said at the time.

However, Paris Jackson dismissed his claims by taking to her Instagram Stories, writing, “[Colman Domingo], don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird” (via Deadline).

In yet another social media update, the Let Down singer remarked, “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest / didn’t sit right with me, and when they didn’t address it, I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys, not my circus. God bless and God speed.”

Michael Jackson’s daughter has also revealed that regardless of Domingo’s comments, the duo had only encountered each other on two occasions. “Once at a birthday party and once at the amfAR thing the other night,” Paris revealed, adding that “both were hella brief interactions.”

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael features Jaafar Jackson in the titular role, with Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Jamal R. Henderson, Tre Horton, Rhyan Hill, Joseph David-Jones, and Jessica Sula, among others, rounding up the supporting cast. The biopic is currently on track to premiere in theaters on April 24, 2026.
