Kathryn Hahn Confirms Casting in Upcoming Disney Live-Action Remake

Golden Globe nominee Kathryn Hahn has officially joined one of Disney‘s highly anticipated live-action remakes of beloved animated movies. On social media, Walt Disney Studios has shared a fun video of Hahn confirming that the MCU star has finally been tapped to play Mother Gothel in the upcoming live-action Tangled remake, based on 2010’s popular Rapunzel movie.

Hahn is no stranger to playing a magical villain. She is best known for playing the fan-favorite role of Agatha Harkness in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows WandaVision and Agatha All Along. Hahn’s casting was first teased earlier this year, when a previous report claimed that Disney was considering the Emmy nominee for the role. Before Hahn, another MCU star was eyed to play the iconic villain in the form of Scarlett Johansson.

What do we know about Disney’s live-action Tangled movie?

The live-action film adaptation of Tangled will be directed by The Greatest Showman filmmaker Michael Gracey, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson writing the screenplay. Hahn will be joining previously announced leads Teagan Croft (Titans) and Milo Manheim (School Spirits), who have been enlisted to portray the respective roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The film is produced by Kristin Burr for Burr! Productions, while Lucy Kitada is serving as an executive producer.

The animated movie was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard from a screenplay written by Dan Fogelman. It featured the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy, Brad Garrett, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, Richard Kiel, M.C. Gainey, and Paul F. Tompkins. It earned a worldwide gross of over $590 million at the box office. At the moment, it currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 226 reviews. Following its success, the movie was followed by a short film and TV show sequels.
