Charlize Theron’s Action-Packed Serial Killer Movie Coming To Netflix Soon
Netflix’s new serial killer movie, starring Charlize Theron, is arriving on the platform next month. Helmed by Everest’s Baltasar Kormákur, it follows a rock climber who is hunted by a serial killer in the wilderness.
Charlize Theron-led Apex to stream on Netflix next month
The Netflix release date for Apex is Friday, April 24, 2026.
The trailer debuted last year, showcasing a brutal and intense cat-and-mouse game between a rock climber and a hunter.
The main cast features Charlize Theron as Sasha, Taron Egerton as the hunter, and Eric Bana in an undisclosed role. Theron and Kormákur also serve as co-producers of the movie. The Purge’s Jeremy Robbins wrote the script, and Högni Egilsson composed the score.
In an interview with Tudum, the director emphasized that the location plays a major role in the story. To deliver a gritty and intense story, they shot the movie in New South Wales, Australia.
“For a film like Apex — where the elements and the terrain are characters that loom just as large as the movie stars battling in it — no other country in the world could have taken the place of Australia as our primary location,” the director explained. “The unrivaled landscape, studio facilities, and talented crews in New South Wales have been a boon to this production,” he added.
Theron told Outsider Magazine that she spent three months learning how to climb. That preparation helped her perform many of her own stunts, even when shooting at real locations. Seemingly referring to the first shot in the trailer, the actress said she performed that stunt barefoot on a real cliff.
Apex is produced under several banners, including Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions. It is the same studio behind Theron’s other projects, such as the 2003 Oscar-winning Monster, 2017’s Atomic Blonde, and 2020’s The Old Guard, along with its sequel in 2025. It also produced Netflix’s highly popular crime drama Mindhunter.
