Avatar 4 Gets Exciting Update as James Cameron Teases Changes

James Cameron has shared an exciting Avatar 4 update.

Avatar: Fire and Ash was released in United States theaters this past December by 20th Century Studios. Directed by Cameron, the third film in the Avatar franchise once again stars Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri.

While Cameron initially planned on making four Avatar sequels, he cast some doubt on the franchise’s future around the time Fire and Ash came out. More specifically, he said he’d only continue if Avatar 3 is a success at the box office and if he can figure out how to make Avatar 4 and 5 for less money.

Fire and Ash has grossed approximately $1.482 billion at the global box office. Its budget is believed to be somewhere in the $350-400 million range.

What is the update on Avatar 4?

Per ScreenRant, Cameron was attending the Saturn Awards this past weekend, where he shared an update about Avatar 4.

According to the outlet, while Cameron has yet to make an official decision regarding whether or not Avatar 4 will be happening, the director did say that it’s “very likely” to come to fruition. Additionally, he said that he would be taking audience feedback into consideration when making the sequel film, which is a change for Cameron, as that was not the case for Avatar: The Way of Water or Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Further details about Avatar 4 are not available at this time. The movie does currently have a December 21, 2029, release date, though whether or not it keeps that spot on the calendar remains to be seen. Both The Way of Water and Fire and Ash were delayed several times.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is still playing in some theaters in the United States. A release date for digital outlets has not yet been announced.
