I Swear Trailer Previews Tourette’s Movie After BAFTAs Controversy & Win

Sony Pictures Classics has released a new trailer for I Swear, the award-winning movie about John Davidson, a man living life with Tourette’s. The film is set to release in the U.S. on April 24, 2026.

“Kirk Jones’ emotionally engaging, funny and compelling script charts John Davidson’s Tourette’s diagnosis at the age of 15 years old. Set within 1980s Britain, the story follows him throughout his troubled teens and early adulthood, and explores this little known and entirely misunderstood condition, along with his attempts to live a ‘normal’ life against the odds,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

What happens in the I Swear trailer?

I Swear follows the life of John Davidson, a man diagnosed with Tourette’s at 15. The film chronicles his childhood and the issues he’s had to deal with, as well as the prejudice he faces for his tics and potential outbursts.

In real life, Davidson has been an advocate for public awareness of Tourette’s syndrome for most of his adult life and was awarded an MBE by the Queen of England in 2019. Recently, Davidson was thrust into the spotlight when he was heard yelling a slur as a tic during the BAFTAs while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.

I Swear is written and directed by Kirk Jones. Alongside Aramayo, the movie also stars Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, Peter Mullan, and Scott Ellis Watson. For his role in the movie, Aramayo won Best Actor in a Leading Role at the BAFTAs, and the film was nominated for five awards overall, also winning Best Casting.
