The release of Scream 7 has helped the long-running horror franchise pass a major box office milestone. Following a strong opening weekend worldwide, the franchise has now surpassed the $1 billion mark in global earnings. This achievement places it alongside other major horror franchises.

Scream 7 pushes franchise over $1 billion mark at box office

The seventh movie in the long-running Scream franchise has delivered a major financial achievement for the series. Following a franchise-best theatrical debut that brought in nearly $100 million worldwide during its opening weekend, the film has pushed the overall global earnings of the Scream series beyond the $1 billion mark.

With this achievement, the series joins a few other horror franchises that have crossed the billion-dollar mark worldwide. The list includes The Conjuring Universe, Alien, Resident Evil, It, and Saw. Among these, The Conjuring Universe currently stands as the highest-grossing horror franchise, with total earnings nearing $2.9 billion across multiple films.

Despite a mixed critical reception, the seventh Scaream film has performed strongly in theaters. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a critics’ score of 31 percent, which makes it the lowest-rated film in the series. However, audience response has been more positive, with viewers giving it a 76 percent rating. The film’s strong opening also surpassed early projections that had estimated a debut between $50 million and $60 million worldwide.

The latest sequel’s story follows Sidney Prescott as she confronts another deadly threat from another Ghostface who has emerged in the quiet town in which Sidney has built a new life. When her daughter becomes the next target, Sidney is forced to confront the horrors of her past in order to protect her family and bring the violence to an end.

The movie’s cast features Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott-Evans, Isabel May as Tatum Evans, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Anna Camp as Jessica Bowden, among others.
