Nicole Kidman talks about her viral advertisement

Nicole Kidman, who has had a long career in Hollywood, continuously delivering critically and commercially successful projects, did a memorable ad campaign for AMC theatres, which went viral across the internet.

Kidman revealed during her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that she did not do the ad for the paycheck, but for a cause she believed in.

“The weirdest thing about that… I had no idea that thing was gonna work,” Kidman said about the ad, “We did it out of the purest of intentions.” She elaborated that she brought writer Bill Ray and director Jeff Cronenweth onboard, claiming that she felt they needed to do something to aid the rapidly diminishing theatre industry after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was during COVID when we did it, and the crew that I was working with on Being the Ricardos, I said, ‘Would you guys be willing to do this?'” Kidman explained, “And Jeff Cronenweth, who was the DP, he said, ‘I’ll direct it.’ [I] called in all these favors.”

The Eyes Wide Shut actress added about the paycheck, “We did it for nothing.” She added, “And then it went off.”

The ad featured Kidman walking in from the rain to an empty theatre and reciting some very memorable dialogue. Since its debut, this ad has remained viral, and fans have continued quoting Kidman.

Nicole Kidman remains a huge part of the industry. She most recently appeared in Holland. She is soon set to appear in Practical Magic 2 and The Young People, with the former releasing in 2026. Kidman will also star in television shows, Scarpetta and Margo’s Got Money Troubles, both coming in 2026.
