According to the AMC Theatres website, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s runtime is 1 hour and 38 minutes. That is six minutes longer than the runtime of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which clocked in at 1 hour and 32 minutes.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie teases a new adventure for brothers Mario and Luigi, the Italian plumbers from Brooklyn. Along the way, the duo runs into Princess Peach, Toad, and Yoshi. This time around, Mario and Luigi will face off against Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr., and meet Princess Rosalina.
The star-studded voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return to direct The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Matthew Fogel pens the script, based on the characters introduced in Nintendo’s video game series. Producers include Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo Executive Fellow and Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto. Brian Tyler returns to compose the music.
Universal Pictures and Nintendo are co-financiers on the animated sequel.
Released in April 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a global success, earning $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2023, behind Barbie ($1.45 billion).
If The Super Mario Galaxy Movie succeeds at the box office, expect this franchise to continue. There has been speculation of a Donkey Kong spin-off movie starring Seth Rogen, who voiced the character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
