Anna Camp apologizes for sharing post dismissing Scream 7 criticism
Anna Camp has publicly apologized after reposting a message that appeared to dismiss backlash and boycott efforts surrounding Scream 7. The actress said the content did not represent her personal views and removed it after the reaction it sparked.
The reposted message, which was original shared on Scream With Ryan C. Showers Podcast’s Instagram page, read, “The boycott didn’t work. The critics’ hate didn’t work. The pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.”
Camp later deleted the story and addressed the matter on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs. I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.”
The controversy surrounding Scream 7 dates back to 2023, when Melissa Barrera was removed from the project after posting comments online about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Production company Spyglass Media Group described the posts as antisemitic at the time.
Following Barrera’s departure, costar Jenna Ortega exited the sequel and director Christopher Landon also stepped away, leading to significant changes behind the scenes. Protests connected to Barrera’s removal also took place around the Los Angeles premiere.
The film ultimately moved forward under new leadership, with franchise writer Kevin Williamson stepping in to direct and original star Neve Campbell returning to the series. Upon release, Scream 7 received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film earned one of the lowest critic scores in the franchise. However, its audience rating proved notably stronger.
