Paul Giamatti Gets Trapped in Every Tourist’s Worst Nightmare in New Horror Movie
Paul Giamatti is set to step back into the horror genre for the first time in over a decade with the new movie Boutique.
What do we know about Paul Giamatti’s new horror movie?
According to a new report from Deadline, Giamatti has boarded the upcoming horror movie, which is set to come from writer-director Jim Gavin (Lodge 49). The movie will see Giamatti play American tourist Calvin as he “journeys to the eerie English seaside town that inspired the work of his favorite reclusive author but instead gets entangled with a murderous secret society permeating the whole town,” according to the film’s logline.
“I’m crazy excited to be a part of this project and for Touchy Feely to be working with XYZ,” said Giamatti in a statement. “Scary, funny, bizarre, strangely moving, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read by one of the most talented guys I know, Jim Gavin!”
Deadline notes the movie is set to begin filming this summer, with Giamatti also attached to the project as a producer. James Harris, Mark Lane, and Guy Danella will also be producers on the movie. Boutique will mark Gavin’s feature directorial debut, with his latest credits coming as a writer on the AMC+ utopian sci-fi series Moonhaven.
For Giamatti, this will be his first horror film since 2016’s Morgan, which also starred Kata Mara and Anya Taylor-Joy. Most recently, Giamatti starred in a 2025 episode of Black Mirror, as well as in the upcoming Star Trek series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. His last movie credits come from 2025’s Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and 2023’s The Holdovers. He’s next set to star in Jesse Eisenberg’s currently untitled musical comedy.
