Man of Steel 2 Plans With Brainiac Revealed by Zack Snyder
While Henry Cavill never got the opportunity to build upon 2013’s Man of Steel with a dedicated sequel, there were plans for a Part 2, as revealed by Zack Snyder himself. In a recent interview, the architect of the now-defunct DCEU confirmed that he had, in fact, conceptualized Man of Steel 2, which would have pitted Cavill’s Superman against Brainiac.
Zack Snyder on original idea for Brainiac to be in Man of Steel 2
During his recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder disclosed to host Josh Horowitz that he had envisioned a Man of Steel 2 story with Braniac as its big bad in the DCEU.
The Watchmen director noted, “We absolutely did. My plan was to hopefully have this sort of established timeline we could branch off and go do this Brainiac movie that would have like a Superman/Brainiac solo concept.”
Despite his initial plans, Snyder ended up helming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the second installment in the DCEU. Ultimately, his vision for Man of Steel never materialized, with the DCEU officially coming to a premature end in December 2023 with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Nevertheless, Snyder believes that his trilogy, comprising Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and the Justice League, still centered around the Last Son of Krypton. “My opinion is that in the end, the full Justice League saga is a Superman story, regardless of how much Batman plays into it,” the 60-year-old filmmaker noted, adding, “When it’s all said and done, Superman is the survivor, he is the savior. Without him, there’s nothing. You know, it is a Superman-centric universe.”
While Zack Snyder may have failed to bring Braniac on the big screen with Man of Steel 2, the superintelligent android will make his theatrical debut in James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow flick. Lars Eidinger has been cast as Braniac in the DCU project, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
