DCEU Director Zack Snyder Shares Thoughts on James Gunn’s Superman DCU Movie
Man of Steel director Zack Snyder has shared some honest thoughts about James Gunn’s Superman.
Snyder’s Man of Steel movie kick-started the DCEU when it was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2013. Following that Henry Cavill-starring movie, Snyder made 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League; although, the latter of those two titles and a long and complicated production history that ultimately resulted in the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021.
The DCEU officially ended in 2023 with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. James Gunn and Peter Safran have since launched a new shared universe, the DCU, at DC Studios that so far includes Creature Commandos Season 1, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2.
What did Zack Snyder say about James Gunn’s Superman?
While Gunn and Snyder’s respective fans may not always be the most civil with one another online, the two directors have repeatedly said they have nothing but respect for each other.
Discussing Gunn’s Superman with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder said, “I wish them all the best, and I don’t have any — it is what it is. It’s a weed — that three-movie [DCEU trilogy is a weed that just won’t die, you know? It grows on its own. It has its own life. It’s not concerned with, I don’t think, with James’ Superman, which is amazing and all the best to them. I can’t wait to see the next movie. It’s just awesome.
“…James is singular in his storytelling, his ability to channel sort of mythological pop culture into what I’d consider an iconic and very particular point of view that’s both poignant and funny. All of the things. He’s the best at it that I can think of. He’s a great steward of that world.”
Both Man of Steel and Superman are currently available to watch on HBO Max.
