Avengers: Doomsday & 2 More Superhero Movies Won’t Release in Imax
Three major superhero films set for 2026 are unlikely to receive exclusive runs in Imax theaters in the United States. Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Clayface are not expected to secure domestic Imax exclusivity, as those premium screens have already been committed to other releases.
Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Clayface not named in Imax 2026 releases
Imax’s 2026 release slate does not include several high-profile superhero titles for exclusive domestic runs. This notably includes Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Clayface. The absence is due to earlier exclusivity deals that have already reserved Imax screens during those key release periods.
The scheduling situation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday is related to its December 18 release date, which it shares with Dune: Part Three. The third installment in the Dune series had secured Imax exclusivity in the United States before Marvel shifted Doomsday from an earlier May 1, 2026, launch to the year-end corridor.
As a result, Imax auditoriums domestically will be dedicated to the Denis Villeneuve epic during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Doomsday is expected to play in the format only in select international markets. With higher ticket prices attached to Imax screens, the allocation showcases a commercial advantage for Dune 3.
Despite the Imax limitation, Avengers: Doomsday remains one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects. Robert Downey Jr. is set to portray Doctor Doom. The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, and Pedro Pascal, among many others. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously guided multiple major projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A similar scenario impacts the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for July 31, 2026. The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan and opening July 17, has secured an exclusive Imax engagement for several weeks in the U.S. market. As a result, the new Spider-Man film will not have access to Imax screens during its opening stretch domestically.
Similarly, the upcoming Clayface movie from DC Studios is also absent from the Imax exclusivity calendar.
