Ryan Gosling on Why His Project Hail Mary Costar Makes Eva Mendes ‘Jealous’

Ryan Gosling has revealed that his wife, Eva Mendes, is jealous of only one of his co-stars. Mendes previously revealed this in an Instagram comment. Gosling, renowned for getting very deep into his characters, explained why Mendes was jealous of his alien friend, Rocky, in Project Hail Mary.

Barbie star Ryan Gosling opened up on Eva Mendes’ jealousy regarding his Project Hail Mary co-star, Rocky. “His only costar I have ever been jealous of…Rocky. They spent wayyy too much time together. They even gave each other rings. WTF?!” Mendes previously wrote on Instagram.

During his latest interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gosling delved into this.

“Well…I just love the guy,” Gosling said about Rocky. “You know what, she’s okay with it cause she loves him too, and so will everyone else. I mean, he’s just the best alien friend you are ever gonna have.”

Rocky was an integral part of the story, and throughout his performance as the protagonist in Project Hail Mary, Gosling developed quite a fondness for the character.

Goslign spoke about Rocky in several other interviews as well, almost always pointing to the fact that everyone would love Rocky, including viewers who watch Project Hail Mary.

James Ortiz voices and acts as the lead puppeteer of Rocky in Project Hail Mary.

The film follows teacher Ryland Grace, who wakes up in spaceship with no memory of how he got there. He pieces back his memory together and realizes that he must solve the riddle of a mysterious substance that is causing the sun to die.

The film is helmed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It stars Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, besides Ryan Gosling.

Project Hail Mary premieres in theatres on March 20, 2026, in the United States.
