Disney’s Reaction to Avengers: Doomsday Revealed by Report

A new report has surfaced, seemingly revealing how Disney feels about Avengers: Doomsday and its box office chances. Launching later this year, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film and its direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled to arrive next year, will bring the Multiverse Saga to a close. While plot details are being kept under wraps, rumors have surfaced suggesting how the film’s story could play out.

Disney executives reportedly happy with Avengers: Doomsday so far

A recent report suggests that Disney is happy with Avengers: Doomsday and believes it will top the box office.

Variety recently published an article delving into newly appointed Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro’s future with the company. It stressed that the sources part of the company’s film division didn’t believe a single film determined the MCU’s health. However, they noted that executives were impressed by Doomsday. The outlet also reported that rival studio heads “privately [predicted]” that it would become 2026’s highest-grossing movie.

Earlier this month, some reviews for the film emerged, courtesy of insiders. All of these promised that the film would exceed fan expectations and surpass previous Marvel films in terms of scale and quality.

Avengers: Doomsday is positioning itself to become one of the biggest Marvel films to date. David Harbour, who stars in the upcoming film as Red Guardian, teased that the upcoming film surpasses Stranger Things 5’s scale, calling it “the biggest thing [he has] ever done.”

Meanwhile, the film’s directors, the Russo Brothers, promised that the upcoming film will have a “new level” of narrative complexity compared to previous Avengers films.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, the same day as Dune: Part Three. The film marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. It was recently reported by DiscussingFilm that Dune 3 will have an exclusive IMAX window on the two films’ opening weekend. This means that Doomsday will only have IMAX screenings in select international markets. The news prompted some fans to call for Doomsday’s theatrical release to be moved to another date.

The Russos directed Avengers: Doomsday from Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely’s screenplay. They also co-produced the film with Marvel Studios through AGBO.
