Amanda Seyfried has pulled back the curtain on her creative process for The Testament of Ann Lee. The Housemaid star recently revealed that she wore a striking prosthetic, offering a glimpse into her transformative approach to the role.

In preparation for key scenes in the acclaimed drama, directed by Mona Fastvold and co-written with her husband Brady Corbet, the 40-year-old revealed that she wore a prosthetic butthole.

“This movie, it needed to be graphic, so, like, I had a prosthetic butthole,” Seyfried said during her Wednesday interview on BBC’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show. When Mills asked about her experience, she had only good things to say. “It was cool. It was exciting.”

However, the scene featuring the prosthetic remains discreet, with the sensitive area tactfully concealed from view.

“I was pregnant and naked, but I wasn’t naked at all, and at the end of the movie, I’m standing in front of a burning building with just a merkin. I felt so free,” Seyfried explained, describing her nude scene in the film’s final moments. “You cannot see my butthole in [the scene], but I swear there is a prosthetic butthole there.”

When the host Scott Mills asked why the prosthetic was used if it wasn’t visible, and Seyfried cheekily replied, “Just in case.” She laughingly added, “Gotta get people to the theater.”

The Testament of Ann Lee is a 2025 historical musical drama starring Amanda Seyfried. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2025, with a US release on December 25, 2025. It chronicles the life of Ann Lee, the founder of the Shaker movement, who found solace in faith after personal loss, preached celibacy and equality, and gained a devoted following.
