007: Taron Egerton Has Intriguing Response to James Bond Casting Rumors

Taron Egerton has been one of the rumored casting choices for James Bond. However, Egerton’s latest remarks suggest he won’t be the one to play 007.

What did Taron Egerton say about James Bond?

While speaking with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Egerton gave a blunt response about potentially playing James Bond.

“I don’t think I’m right for James Bond,” he said. “I’ve never felt that that was me.

Egerton added: “I think there’s great candidates for it, and I think it’s obviously a huge cinematic institution. I don’t want to be dismissive about it as a thing. I just feel that my path is less kind of grand and idealized.”

Egerton has previously stated that he does not believe he would be a good fit to play Bond.

“I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that,” Egerton said. “I think I’m not — I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure. But I think I wouldn’t be good at it, and I think there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably.”

The search for the next 007 is underway. The rumored names at the top of the list are Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi.

Denis Villeneuve will direct the next Bond film, which is informally known as Bond 26. Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight is penning the script. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are attached as producers.

Amazon MGM Studios now has creative control over the Bond franchise going forward. In February 2025, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of Eon Productions ceded creative control to Amazon.

Bond 26 has no start date. It is rumored to begin production in late 2026 or early 2027. If that timeline remains true, expect a 2028 release date.
