Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn Teases Superman & Lex Luthor’s DCU Team Up

James Gunn is teasing Lex Luthor and Superman’s complicated alliance in Man of Tomorrow.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Man of Tomorrow will be released in United States theaters in 2027. Directed by Gunn, the film serves as a follow-up to 2025’s Superman and will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their respective roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor.

What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?

On Twitter, Gunn celebrated the anniversary of Lex Luthor’s official DC Comics debut with a picture of the notorious villain in his mechanized warsuit and a brief tease regarding what’s to come in Man of Tomorrow.

“Happy Birthday to the ambitious and unstoppable CEO and scientist Lex Luthor, who most definitely is NOT a villain, but instead of protector of earth and humanity (he swears on a stack of Bibles),” Gunn wrote. “We’ll see how he does working with arch-nemesis Superman in MAN OF TOMORROW, in theaters summer of 27. He first appeared in SUPERMAN #4, written by Jerry Siegel, with pencils by Joe Shuster and inks by Paul Cassidy.”

While it is known that Superman and Lex Luthor will have to work together in Man of Tomorrow, not much else is known about the plot of the DCU movie at this point, other than that the movie will also feature Lars Eidinger as Brainiac.

In addition to being the main antagonist in Superman, Hoult’s Luthor also made a cameo in Peacemaker Season 2.

With filming scheduled to begin later this year, Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027. Superman, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on HBO Max. DCU projects that are currently scheduled to be released before Man of Tomorrow include Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface, all of which are coming in 2026.
