The Creator arrives on Netflix in March

2023’s The Creator will arrive on Netflix on Friday, March 20, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). Since 20th Century Studios distributed the film, it originally aired on Disney+ and Hulu, but later moved to Amazon Prime Video.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Gareth Edwards served as the film’s writer, director, and co-producer. He also worked on the screenplay with Chris Weitz. The film stars John David Washington as Joshua Taylor, Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Alphie/Alpha O, Gemma Chan as Maya Fey, Ken Watanabe as Harun, and Allison Janney as Colonel Howell, among others.

After AI triggers a nuclear blast in Los Angeles in 2055, the world is divided into two parts. While one part battles AI, the other part, dubbed New Asia, has learnt to embrace it in everyday life. Determined to eliminate the source, the US forces begin hunting “Nirmata,” the creator/chief architect of New Asia’s AI technology.

More than a decade later, the military enlists Joshua to locate and destroy a superweapon called “Alpha O,” believed to have the power to end the war. To his dismay, he discovers that the weapon is an advanced childlike AI robot named Alphie. Furthermore, Joshua uncovers a darker conspiracy and ultimately chooses to protect Alphie instead.

Released on September 29, 2023, The Creator opened to mixed reviews. It currently has a 67% approval rating from critics and a 75% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While it received praise for its effects and sound design, the film was criticized for its story.

The film was not a big box office success and concluded its global theatrical run after taking in around $104.2 million (via Box Office Mojo). However, it earned Oscar nominations for Best Sound and Best Achievement in Visual Effects the following year.
