BioShock Movie Finally Gets Exciting Update After Constant Delays

Fans of 2K’s BioShock game have long been waiting for an encouraging update on its movie adaptation without any notable response, until now. In a recent interview, Roy Lee, one of the principal producers attached to the project, confirmed that despite a severe lack of information, the team hasn’t abandoned plans for the video game-based feature.

Roy Lee says work on BioShock movie will start after The Hunger Games prequel

The veteran producer has revealed that work on the BioShock movie should commence once post-production of the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping wraps up.

This is due to the involvement of filmmaker Francis Lawrence in the Hunger Games prequel, whose packed schedule has restricted him from assuming directorial responsibilities on the BioShock adaptation.

“We would have gotten it made a few years back, but then other movies got in the way, with one being The Long Walk and the other being The Hunger Games prequel, which comes out this December,” Roy Lee said in a discussion with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, which primarily centered around the producer’s forthcoming Psycho Killer film.

“We’re just waiting for him [Francis] to finish post-production, because he’s going to be working on it through at least September, and then jump back into it. I know that Netflix and Take-Two are very anxious to see the movie come out because they want to have the release coincide with some of the potential new incarnations of the game,” the Vertigo Entertainment co-founder added.

While Roy Lee is still unsure about the exact production schedule of the BioShock movie, he remains hopeful for a 2027 start. Talking about the feature’s potential filming window, he remarked, “It’s steadily on the path, but you know how it goes. It’s…so many things could get in the way, but I know that the intent is to hopefully get in production next year.”

Meanwhile, Francis Lawrence’s next directorial venture, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is currently on track to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.
