According to Deadline, Eddie Redmayne has been set to star in the next film from acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The upcoming project will be produced by Searchlight Pictures and will be filmed in English. Redmayne will also serve as a producer on the film. Kore-eda has written the screenplay and will direct the feature, while Jonathan King and Ash Sarohia are also attached as producers. Joyce Jun and Kaoru Matsuzaki will serve as executive producers. The untitled project will mark the first collaboration between Redmayne and Kore-eda. As of now, additional details about the story have not yet been revealed.
The project adds to a busy period for Redmayne, who has been expanding his work as a producer alongside his acting career. He recently worked on the television series The Day of the Jackal, in which he stars and executive-produces. Further, the 44-year-old has also found success in theater production.
Readmayne helped launch the West End revival of Cabaret, which starred Jessie Buckley and marked his return to the stage in the role of the Emcee. The production received significant acclaim and won seven Olivier Awards. Following its run in London, the revival transferred to Broadway, where it went on to receive nine Tony Award nominations.
In addition, the actor is also attached to the upcoming Warner Bros. project, Panic Carefully, in which he will appear alongside Julia Roberts.
Meanwhile, for Kore-eda, the film represents another international project in a career that has earned global recognition. His 2018 feature Shoplifters won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and later received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
