Jay & Silent Bob’s Marvel Adventure Is a Crossover of the Ages

For over three decades, Jay and Silent Bob have been the profane, stoner heart of the View Askewniverse. But this summer, the dynamic duo is leaving New Jersey behind to wreak havoc on a much larger scale. In a crossover that has been 30 years in the making, Kevin Smith’s iconic slackers are officially crashing the Marvel Universe.

A Jay and Silent Bob and Marvel crossover comic from Kevin Smith announced

Marvel Comics has officially announced Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past, a one-shot special written by Kevin Smith with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli. The story sees the pair embark on a wild trip across the Marvel mythos, colliding with heroes like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. However, not everyone is happy to see them. The plot kicks off when Doctor Doom decrees that the duo “must die,” forcing a massive team-up of Avengers and other heroes to save them from a “lethal case of super hero fatigue.”

Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past #1 is scheduled to hit local comic book shops on June 10. The announcement is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Smith, whose films like Mallrats and Clerks were steeped in comic book culture. The seed for this crossover was planted on the set of Mallrats in 1995, where Smith watched Stan Lee film his cameo.

“From the moment in Mallrats when they made the very first reference to Wolverine in cinema history, I’ve always wanted Jay and Silent Bob to meet their Marvel heroes in a comic book crossover—so much so that I pitched it to Stan the Man himself the day he shot his cameo in the movie way back in 1995,” Smith shared in the press release.

Now, at age 55, that pitch has finally become a reality. Smith described Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past as “both a love letter to the magic and mayhem of Marvel, as well as giggle-inducing proof that our childhood dreams can still come true.” The project brings Smith full circle, allowing him to blend the slacker humor he perfected in his films with the superhero spectacle he has always loved.
