Chris Hemsworth Teases Thor’s Unique MCU Future After Avengers: Doomsday
Chris Hemsworth is teasing Thor’s “unique” MCU future following Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters later this year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then follows in 2027.
So far, Marvel has released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is officially returning to the MCU, while the second focused on Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth and final teaser put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, Ebon-Moss Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.
What did Chris Hemsworth say about Thor’s MCU future?
Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, via The Playlist, Hemsworth said that there would still be a “couple more times” he’ll get to play Thor after Avengers: Doomsday.
“I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character,” Hemsworth said. “And whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”
One of the future projects Hemsworth is seemingly referring to is Avengers: Secret Wars, as the actor previously hinted that Thor will be part of the cast of that movie. Beyond that, however, it’s unclear what plans Marvel has for the God of Thunder, as a fifth movie in the stand-alone Thor franchise has not been announced.
Hemsworth also said, “You do need to be careful. When we made Ragnarok, it was quite a twist, with Taika’s [movie]. And it was so fun. There was a huge appreciation for the shift. And then [with]‘Love And Thunder, it was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much, and then there was some backlash. There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.’”
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026.
