Natalie Portman ‘Stole’ 1 Special Star Wars Memento From Set & ‘Lost It’

Natalie Portman revisited her story about an item she “stole” from the set while filming the Star Wars prequel trilogy. While the item was not a part of her character, she took it nonetheless and said it was “iconic,” though she has since “lost it.”

During her recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Natalie Portman said that she “stole” an “iconic” item from the Star Wars set.

“I took one of Anakin’s braids. They had these little like clip-on,” the actress shared. “It’s quite iconic. The only problem is [that] I lost it. I don’t know where it is now. I stole it and then lost it.”

This isn’t the first time the Oscar-winning actress has spoken about the item. She revealed it for the first time on ITV’s This Morning show in May 2025, while promoting Fountain of Youth. On the show, she admitted to taking Anakin’s braids at the “end of the shooting.”

She said that there were “many” and took just “one of them,” adding, “I don’t have it anymore. I lost it.”

The Black Swan actress spoke about it again on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert around the same time. During their conversation, she also said that she took a lighter from Jackie’s set, adding that it was even monogrammed.

Natalie Portman famously played Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. She first portrayed the character in Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999. She starred alongside Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, and Ian McDiarmid as Senator Palpatine.

While the character launched her to global stardom, the Annihilation star had admitted to being unaware of the franchise’s massive fanbase in a 1999 CNN interview. “I really wasn’t aware of how big a deal Star Wars was… And when I saw the films, I really liked them, but I still didn’t really understand how many were passionate fans of this film,” she told the outlet.
