Tyler Perry’s New Madea Movie Out Today on Netflix
The latest installment of Tyler Perry‘s long-running Madea film franchise has finally been released seven months after debuting Madea’s Destination Wedding. As of today, Joe’s College Road Trip, featuring Madea’s infamous older brother, is now officially available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about Netflix’s new Madea movie?
Joe’s College Road Trip is written and directed by Perry, who is also playing the dual roles of Madea and Joe. Joining him in the new comedy movie are Jermaine Harris as B.J. Simmons, Amber Reign as Destiny, Bethany Anne Lind as Vikki, Patricia Williams as Pearl, Jeremy Gimenez as Garrett, Millie Jackson as Geraldine, Deetta West as Kathryn, Wil Deusner as Stewart, and Ben Swiley as Herbert.
“In the film, when Joe sets off on a no-rules, no-filter road trip to take his sheltered grandson, BJ, across the country, the journey quickly veers into hilarious, chaotic territory. Wrong turns, big laughs, and classic Joe antics guaranteed,” reads the official synopsis.
This serves as Perry’s latest project with Netflix as part of his creative partnership with the streamer, which sees the filmmaker writing, directing, and producing films, series, and faith-based features. The movie is produced by Perry and Angi Bones, with Dara Taylor set as the composer.
Inspired by Perry’s mother and aunt, Madea first appeared in the 1999 stage play titled I Can Do Bad All by Myself. The iconic character went on to become the lead of her own film franchise that began with 2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which was Perry’s feature debut. Since then, the character has appeared in more than a dozen movies.
