Brendan Fraser’s Acclaimed 2025 Movie Gets Hulu Release Date

Hulu has announced the release date for the upcoming streaming debut of Searchlight Pictures‘ acclaimed comedy-drama starring Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser. Since its theatrical debut last November, Rental Family has received a Certified Fresh score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 191 reviews.

“Set in modern-day Tokyo, the movie follows a has-been American actor searching for purpose and belonging in a society where he feels increasingly adrift. An unexpected acting call leads him to a ‘rental family’ agency, where he is hired to play stand-in roles for strangers seeking connection,” reads the official synopsis. “As performance begins to blur with reality, the immersive role-playing awakens his humanity and compassion, drawing him deeply into his clients’ lives and pushing him off-script whenever his empathetic heart takes over.”

When is the Hulu release date for Rental Family?

Fraser’s Rental Family will be available to stream starting on Wednesday, February 18, exclusively on Hulu. The cast also included Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), Mari Yamamoto (Kate), Shannon Gorman, and Akira Emoto (Dr. Akagi).

The movie was directed and produced by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker HIKARI (Beef, Tokyo Vice), who co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut. It was produced by Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev for Sight Unseen Pictures, alongside Shin Yamaguchi for Knockonwood. After its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie has garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised Fraser’s leading performance.

At the moment, Fraser is attached to star in a few movies, such as the upcoming World War II movie Pressure with Andrew Scott, and the crime drama movie Diamond, which hails from actor-director Andy Garcia. In addition, it has also been recently confirmed that Fraser has officially signed on to reprise his iconic role as Rick O’Connell in Universal Pictures’ new The Mummy movie, which will debut on May 19, 2028. The long-awaited sequel will reunite Fraser with fellow Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, who is also returning to the horror franchise as Evelyn.
