Power Rangers (2017) is leaving Netflix next month

Power Rangers will be leaving Netflix on Friday, March 6, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). The film served as a modern reboot of the franchise and loosely adapted the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers pilot episode, which aired on August 28, 1993.

Its story follows a group of students from Angel Grove, who discover an ancient alien technology in an old mine. Each of them takes one Power Coin, which ultimately grants them superhuman powers. The group soon learn that they have less than two weeks to defeat the villainous Rita Repulsa before she destroys the planet.

Power Rangers’ cast features Dacre Montgomery as Jason, Naomi Scott as Kimberly, RJ Cyler as Billy, Ludi Lin as Zack, Becky G as Trini, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in the lead. It also stars Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader, and David Denman in prominent roles.

Released on March 24, 2017, the movie opened to mixed reviews. It currently has a 51% Tomatometer score and 65% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. It made over $142 million globally during its theatrical run.

While the franchise is best known for its various television series iterations, it also spawned two movies in the ‘90s, comic books, and video games. The overall concept is adapted from the Japanese franchise Super Sentai.

Ahead of the movie’s release in 2017, producer Haim Saban said that the studio had planned a “six-movie story arc.” Despite the movie’s underwhelming box office performance, the studio reportedly had a sequel in the works.

However, in 2018, the entire Power Rangers franchise, along with a few others, was sold to Hasbro, Inc. The deal was reportedly valued at $522 million in cash and stock (via Hasbro). Although Hasbro announced a sequel in 2019, the project has not yet materialized.
