Adam Sandler’s $171 Million Feel-Good Comedy Is Leaving Netflix Shortly

One of Adam Sandler’s early 2000s box office hits is preparing to exit Netflix, giving subscribers limited time to revisit the lighthearted comedy before it disappears from the platform. The film, which grossed $171 million worldwide during its theatrical run, has remained a recognizable entry in Sandler’s catalog.

Mr. Deeds is leaving Netflix in March

Adam Sandler’s Mr. Deeds leaves Netflix on March 1, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). The early-2000s comedy, helmed by Steven Brill, features Adam Sandler as Longfellow Deeds, a laid-back pizza shop owner whose quiet small-town life flips upside down when he suddenly inherits an enormous fortune. The movie was made under Sandler’s Happy Madison banner and hit theaters in June 2002.

The plot kicks into gear when Deeds learns he’s the heir to a staggering $40 billion empire and heads to New York City to claim it. Once there, he’s thrown into a world of slick executives, gold-digging elites, and hungry tabloids, all while trying not to lose his down-to-earth charm. Winona Ryder plays a reporter while John Turturro portrays Emilio, Deeds’ personal valet.

Netflix doesn’t actually own most of the movies and shows sitting in its library; it rents them. The streamer signs licensing agreements with studios and distributors, and those deals only last for a set period of time.

Once the contract runs out, the studio can renegotiate with Netflix, shop the title to a rival platform, or keep it for its own streaming service. If the two sides can’t decide on a new agreement, whether because of price, strategy shifts, the movie is removed.

Critics didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet for the film, but the comedy pulled in around $171 million at the global box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ score sits on the lower side with 22%.

On IMDb, users have handed it a middle-of-the-road 5.8 rating. For those not in the know, the movie is actually a modern spin on the 1936 Frank Capra classic Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, updated with Sandler’s signature slapstick humor and sentimental storytelling.

Subscribers who want to stream Mr. Deeds have until March 1, 2026, before it leaves Netflix.
