Fans of the Predator universe have reason to be excited as director Dan Trachtenberg shares new insights into the future of the franchise. He aims to expand the story of Prey 2 while maintaining the elements that made the first film a standout, signaling fresh directions for this sci-fi action series.
Dan Trachtenberg on Prey 2 and more Predator movies
Trachtenberg called his approach to the Predator sequel “multipronged,” aiming to make the next installment feel fresh and distinct. He likened his process to the creative phase after Prey, when he was developing Badlands and Killer of Killers simultaneously. For him, each project acts as its own entry point, letting new viewers jump into the franchise without needing to see the earlier films. “It’s like all three of [my movies] — Prey, Killers of Killers, and Badlands — are entry points of the franchise,” Trachtenberg explained to ScreenRant.
The director stressed the need to introduce new characters while exploring untapped corners of the Predator universe. “We now have this cool story, we now have these other characters that would be cool to make more with,” he said, signaling plans to expand the narrative while keeping the series’ signature sci‑fi action theme intact.
Trachtenberg’s Prey reboot breathed new life into the classic alien hunt, earning praise for its suspense, striking visuals, and grounded performances. While plot and cast details for Prey 2 are still under wraps, the director hints at a sequel that balances fan favorites with fresh creative twists. The approach fits Paramount’s broader plan of expanding the Predator universe through multiple, interconnected stories.
Trachtenberg has always hinted at wanting to dive deeper into Badlands’ ending, especially exploring Dek’s relationship with his mother. That said, as of now, he hasn’t signed on to any official project or deal with Paramount.
Dan Trachtenberg isn’t just the go-to name for Predator films; he’s a recognized Hollywood director with a strong track record. He helmed 10 Cloverfield Lane, which received widespread acclaim, and has also made waves in TV, directing pilots for The Boys and episodes of Black Mirror.
