Jason Lives: 5 Beloved Friday the 13th Horror Movies Return to Theaters

Jason Voorhees lives, as five Friday the 13th movies will be returning to United States theaters this year.

The iconic horror franchise primarily featuring Jason Voorhees officially kicked off in 1980 with Friday the 13th, which was directed by Sean S. Cunningham. There have since been eleven other films that are part of the series, one of which serves as a crossover with the A Nightmare on Elm Street movies, along with comics, video games, and much more.

What Friday the 13th horror movies are returning to theaters?

With there being three Friday the 13ths that are occurring in this calendar year, Regal Cinemas has announced plans to bring five Jason movies back to theaters throughout the course of 2026.

The original 1980 movie and 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2 will both return to theaters this weekend, on Friday, February 13. Friday the 13th Part 3 3-D, which was released in 1982, and 1984’s Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will then be available to see on the big screen on Friday, March 13. Lastly, 1986’s Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is being shown on Friday, November 13.

Regal’s Brooks LeBouef said in a statement, “At our theatres, Regal shares joy through extraordinary experiences, and on each Friday the 13th in 2026, we will deliver on that promise to our horror movie-loving guests. We have scheduled a year-long moviegoing event around one of the most popular horror series in the world, celebrated on its namesake holiday.”

A press release for the year-long event also notes, “Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) is purposefully missing from the rerelease schedule, as Regal axed (or more accurately macheted) the fifth chapter in the series due to a ‘fake Jason’ plot twist generally disliked by fans of the franchise. Regal has omitted Part 5 out of respect to the murderous legacy of the Vorhees family.”

The event is presented in partnership with Fangoria, and Regal Crown Club members who attend multiple of these screenings receive continuity credits and Fangoria rewards for their continued attendance.
