The Super Mario Bros. Movie has surged back into popularity, claiming the top position on Peacock’s Top 10 Movies chart in the United States. According to FlixPatrol, the animated feature has remained at number one since February 4, 2026, highlighting renewed interest from streaming audiences more than two years after its theatrical debut.
Released in U.S. theaters on April 5, 2023, the film was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. It brings Nintendo’s long running video game franchise to the screen. The story follows Brooklyn plumbers Mario and Luigi, who are suddenly transported into the fantastical Mushroom Kingdom. When the brothers are separated, Mario teams up with Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong in a race to rescue Luigi and stop Bowser, the King of the Koopas, from threatening the world.
Chris Pratt leads the voice cast as Mario, with Anya Taylor Joy portraying Princess Peach. Charlie Day voices Luigi, while Jack Black takes on the role of Bowser. Keegan Michael Key appears as Toad, and Seth Rogen voices Donkey Kong.
Critical response to The Super Mario Bros. Movie was mixed at the time of release, with Rotten Tomatoes listing a 59% rating from critics based on 288 reviews.
