Yellowstone Franchise Star’s New Western Movie Gets Release Date

A new western film connected to a Yellowstone franchise star has officially secured a release date. The project joins Paramount’s growing future slate and comes from filmmaker Potsy Ponciroli.

Paramount has officially set a release date for The Rescue, a modern-day western directed by Potsy Ponciroli (via Deadline). The film stars Brandon Sklenar and Hassie Harrison, both known for roles in Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 and Yellowstone, respectively. Their pairing brings together two of the most recognized faces from Sheridan’s expanding television universe in a new theatrical setting.

The Rescue follows a rodeo cowboy who must rely on his skills beyond the confines of competition. Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film is produced by Ponciroli, Shannon Houchins, and Cliff Roberts, with executive production by Down Home. It is currently the only major studio title scheduled for the end of January 2027.

Paramount included the release as part of a broader scheduling update that added three new titles to its 2027 slate. These additions bring the studio’s total number of confirmed releases for the year to nine, reflecting an early look at its long-range theatrical planning and its emphasis on a diverse mix of genres and filmmakers, including westerns, horror, and character-driven dramas across various release windows.

Paramount set the Brandon Sklenar-led modern-day western The Rescue for release on January 29, 2027. The studio has not scheduled any other wide releases for that weekend. It also has not shared more details about the film’s plot or distribution strategy.

The January release places The Rescue in a post-holiday window. Studios often use this period to launch adult dramas, action films, or genre titles with less box office competition. Paramount has not confirmed whether the film will open wide or follow a platform rollout.
