McLaughlin, best known for his role as Lucas Sinclair on Netflix’s Stranger Things, has thrown his hat into the ring for one of Marvel’s most sought-after roles. In a recent interview with Variety, the actor confirmed he would be honored to play Miles Morales.
“I would love to play Miles,” McLaughlin stated. He elaborated on the character’s importance, saying, “I think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people.” The actor, who grew up in the Bronx, New York, also shared a personal connection. “Being from New York and then just seeing the Spider-Verse story… I just feel it’s really, really connected, and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.”
This isn’t the first time McLaughlin’s name has been linked to the role. Since the 2018 release of the groundbreaking animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, fans have pointed out the striking resemblance between the actor and the illustrated hero. His New York roots, shared with Miles Morales, have only fueled the speculation.
The character of Morales, created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, first appeared in 2011. His popularity exploded with the Spider-Verse films, where Shameik Moore voices him. The massive success of the animated franchise, which includes an Oscar win and a hit video game, has created immense anticipation for a live-action adaptation within the MCU.
Now, Caleb McLaughlin’s comments come amid growing online chatter, especially after he recently shared videos of his intense gymnastics training on social media—a skill set perfect for a certain web-slinger. While Marvel Studios has made no official announcement, one of the leading fan candidates is now openly ready for the audition, hoping to bring a new Spider-Man to life.
