MCU’s 2027 Slate Is the Smallest From Marvel in Years
Marvel Studios looks to have a much smaller film and live-action television slate in 2027 than in previous years. Next year, the superhero entertainment company appears to be dropping just one show and one film. Due to this, 2027 will have the smallest MCU slate since 2020, a year in which no films or TV shows were released.
2027 to bring just one MCU show and one movie
In 2027, Marvel Studios will reportedly drop only one television show, Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, and one film, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Thus, 2027 will mark the first time since 2020 that Marvel will have such a small film and television slate. This surpasses 2024’s slate count, which only had three live-action projects — the film Deadpool & Wolverine, and the live-action shows Agatha All Along and Echo. This will likely remain the case unless Marvel decides to drop a follow-up to the Werewolf by Night special presentation.
Moreover, this move echoes Marvel’s release pattern for Phases 1 and 2. Phase 1 (2008-12) saw either one or two movies released yearly, except in 2009. Meanwhile, Phase 2 (2013-15) saw two movies drop every year.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is expected to come out in March 2027. The expected release window comes from the comments of Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, in an Agents of Fandom interview, in which he said that the show will follow an “annual March release” for its seasons, “as long as people enjoy [it].”
Season 3 will reportedly begin filming on March 6, 2026, roughly two weeks before Season 2’s premiere on March 24. Plot details are being kept under wraps. However, according to a rumor from scooper Daniel RPK, the third installment will reportedly feature the return of The Hand. This shady, mystical organization played a prominent role in Netflix’s Daredevil, where they had strong ties to Élodie Yung’s Elektra. They later returned in the crossover spin-off, The Defenders, in which their members were killed.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars, the direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027. The film and its predecessor are expected to conclude the Multiverse Saga.
