The A-Team 2 plot revealed for canceled sequel
While speaking with The Direct to promote his latest film, The Rip, Joe Carnahan shared some plot details about The A-Team’s unmade sequel, The A-Team 2.
The Smokin’ Aces filmmaker said that he had the “best opening” for the film. He shared that the film opened with Liam Neeson’s John “Hannibal” Smith “running sled dogs in the Sahara Desert,” and reaching the Citadel to rescue Bradley Cooper’s Templeton “Face” Peck, who is being held hostage.
The director continued, “And he has to get in there. And he’s gonna play blackjack against The Shape, and he’s brought a Lamborghini.” He further stated, “He’s brought all these wares to trade for Face, but they’re gonna play cards. That was the opening of the sequel.”
Carnahan on why The A-Team flopped at the box office
Carnahan attributed The A-Team’s box office flop to “marketing,” adding that they released on the same day as the World Cup. “It was a bad date,” he further stated. “Karate Kid absolutely kicked the s–t out of us.” Notably, The A-Team reportedly grossed $177.2 million at the box office, while The Karate Kid grossed $359.1 million at the box office.
The director also brought up the film’s positive reception, lamenting that he couldn’t make a sequel. “It’s a shame, because that movie has become very beloved,” he shared. “I always get people saying, ‘Man, I love that film.’ And, you know, it’s got Alan Silvestri pre-Avengers with that score. But, yeah, man, that was a bit of a bummer to not make another one.”
