Ray Romano Tapped To Play a Father of 5 in New HBO Max Show

Ray Romano will take on a new family-centered role in an upcoming HBO Max drama series. The veteran actor will portray the father of five in the new project.

Ray Romano to lead How to Survive Without Me pilot at HBO Max

Deadline reports Ray Romano will star in the HBO Max drama pilot from Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran. The story comes from Berlanti, Doran and Robbie Rogers. Warner Bros Television produces the project. Romano previously worked with Berlanti on the 2024 film Fly Me to the Moon.

The De Angelis family drifts after matriarch Beverly’s death, but she continues to guide them from beyond. To experience her final work, the family must stay connected and support one another through future challenges. The family includes five adult children.

Romano plays Leo, a newly widowed father who takes on the lead parenting role. As his children adjust to life without their mother, he finds his own voice and becomes the family’s new center. The writers created the role for Romano.

The pilot is HBO Max’s second project under its new drama model, alongside American Blue starring Milo Ventimiglia. Romano previously starred in Everybody Loves Raymond and appeared in Parenthood, Men of a Certain Age and Made for Love.
