Ryan Reynolds’ latest Apple TV+ project has officially locked in a release date and revealed a first image. The action comedy, which teams Reynolds with Kenneth Branagh, is part of Apple Original Films’ expanding slate of direct-to-service releases.

Apple Original Films will premiere the action buddy comedy Mayday, starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, on September 4, 2026, on Apple TV+. Apple announced Mayday’s release date during its press day and confirmed it through the @AppleTV account on X, stating: “#Mayday. Coming September 4 to Apple TV.”
Apple unveiled a first-look image for Mayday, showing Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh lying disheveled in the snow together and looking exhausted. The film features Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse. Reynolds portrays U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, who is shot down during a covert Cold War mission in Russian territory and discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a former KGB agent with a taste for American culture.
The plot follows the two as they form an unexpected alliance behind enemy lines. During a press event, Apple categorized Mayday as a buddy action movie, presented alongside other upcoming direct-to-service films and series. The film blends action and comedy elements, highlighting the clash and chemistry between its mismatched leads in high-stakes Cold War territory.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein directed, wrote, and produced Mayday. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger produced for Skydance, while Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau produced for Maximum Effort. Reynolds and George Dewey also produced through Maximum Effort, with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer.
Apple shared the announcement as part of a broader presentation that included updates on titles such as Outcome starring Keanu Reeves, The Dink starring Jake Johnson, and Matchbox: The Movie starring John Cena.
