Iconic Coen Bros. Movie Arrives on Prime Video Today
One of the 1990s most beloved movies is now available on Prime Video, allowing fans to check out a cult classic that’s since become a mainstay in the world of comedy.
What iconic Coen Brothers movie is on Prime Video?
The Coen Brothers‘ classic film The Big Lebowski is now available on Prime Video. The movie is one of the Coen Bros.’ earlier classics, and a part of their incredible run in the 1990s that also included Barton Fink and Fargo.
Released in 1998, The Big Lebowski is a crime comedy directed by Joel Coen, and written by him and his brother Ethan. The film stars Jeff Bridges as the titular Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a slacker who is assaulted due to a case of mistaken identity that kickstarts a big adventure.
Alongside Bridges, The Big Lebowski also stars John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, David Huddleston, Tara Reid, Sam Elliott, David Thewlis, Ben Gazzara, Peter Stormare, Torsten Voges, Flea, and more.
The film was a success upon its release, but has gone on to become a massive cult classic, known best for its eccentric characters, chaotic story, and dialogue. The movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2014, for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
“When ‘the Dude’ Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about,” reads the official synopsis for the film. “While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from the Dude.”
