Saw 11: James Wan Gives Exciting Update on Iconic Horror Movie Franchise

Acclaimed horror filmmaker James Wan has finally shared an exciting update about what to expect from the upcoming Saw 11 movie. This comes more than six months after Blumhouse successfully acquired the rights to the iconic horror franchise.

What was James Wan’s Saw 11 update?

Per LMEmovies on X, during the recent special screening of 2004’s Saw at the Sundance Film Festival, franchise creator Wan teased new details about the next Saw movie, which would serve as a comeback after nearly two decades of his not being involved with the recent Saw movies. He confirmed that he and long-time collaborator Leigh Whannell are heavily involved in the creative development of Saw 11.

“All I can say is . . . we’re gonna do one,” Wan said. “We are going to make one. I don’t want to say too much. It’s very early still. We want to hark back to the spirit of the original film.”

He continued, “We want to be mindful and be respectful of what fans have learned about the soapy nature of the entire franchise. We know there’s a lot of love for the world, but we definitely want to go back to the spirit of the first film. We want to make another scary Saw movie.”

However, despite previous reports that Wan would be returning to direct with Whannell writing the screenplay, Dread Central’s Brad Miska claimed that nothing has been finalized yet. At the moment, Blumhouse has yet to make any official announcements about the project’s official director and writer.

The Saw franchise centered around Tobin Bell’s iconic character Jigsaw, a serial killer who uses violently elaborate psychological tests and torture games to trap his victims into seemingly unescapable situations. It currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $1 billion.
