3 Beloved Animated Films Releasing on Free Streaming Service Soon
Three popular DreamWorks animated films, Shrek 1, 2, and 3, will be releasing on the free streaming service Tubi in February. It’s difficult to find some of these movies on streaming platforms, particularly those that don’t require a subscription, so this offers a rare opportunity to watch them free of charge.
First three Shrek films will arrive on Tubi in February
The original Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), and Shrek the Third (2007) will be added to the free, ad-supported Tubi on February 1, 2026.
At the time of writing, the movies in the Shrek franchise can be found on the paid subscription service Peacock, or they can be purchased separately on various platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango, and Google Play. As noted by a thread on the Shrek Reddit, the first Shrek film and Shrek Forever After were available on some platforms like Netflix and Roku TV, but Shrek 2 can be difficult to find. So it’s great to see that they will be heading to Tubi soon.
These three films, especially for being animated movies not produced by Disney or Pixar, were a huge success at the box office. The original Shrek only had a budget of $60 million but earned over $488 million worldwide at the box office. Shrek 2 later smashed box office records with a whopping $932 million, while Shrek the Third amassed an impressive $808 million.
Rumors that Shrek 5 was in production, more than a decade after the theatrical release of Shrek Forever After (2010), started to swirl in April 2023. Illumination founder Chris Meledandri teased that he wanted the full voice cast from the original Shrek films to be a part of the project, and since then, Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona) have all been confirmed to be returning for the fifth installment.
However, Universal and DreamWorks Animation have delayed the release of Shrek 5 several times, most recently pushing it to June 30, 2027.
