The Wrecking Crew 2 gets an update from writer
Jonathan Tropper, writer of The Wrecking Crew, confirmed that early talks for a sequel have taken place. In an interview with The Direct, Tropper said, “I’ve talked about it with Jason [Momoa] a little bit, and I would have talked about with Dave [Bautista], except Dave is so busy making two other movies right now.” He added, “We have a pretty strong idea… These brothers are now united in a way they weren’t before,” and noted that a sequel would “up the ante, up the stakes, and put them in a much more difficult situation.”
Tropper explained that the second film would test the bond formed in the first: “Whatever relationship they’ve built between the first and the second one [would] start to unravel, because they’re thrown into the trenches again together.” He also said, “We just have to wait and see if Amazon wants another one.” He shared this when asked about the studio’s decision-making process.
The Wrecking Crew premiered on January 28 on Prime Video. It stars Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as estranged brothers reuniting after their father’s death. As they investigate his past, a Yakuza clan relentlessly pursues them. Director Angel Manuel Soto highlighted the real-life contrast between the leads: “Dave is quiet, gentle. Jason is loud and wild… but it also makes it more impactful when those two differences find a cathartic moment to work together.”
Jason Momoa called Bautista “like an older brother” and said, “I know I could call him at any moment for anything I need” (via PEOPLE). Bautista said, “I love you and I’m comfortable with you… it’s never work when you work with people you love.” The actors shared a memorable experience riding motorcycles in Hawaii after filming.
