Cillian Murphy & Daniel Craig-Led New Movie Adds The Buccaneers Star To Cast

Damien Chazelle has reportedly expanded the cast of his upcoming film, led by Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig. The filmmaker is said to have added a new actor from The Buccaneers to the ensemble, continuing to build out the project’s lineup.

Damien Chazelle’s next movie casts Mia Threapleton

Mia Threapleton has joined the cast of Damien Chazelle’s upcoming untitled film, alongside Cillian Murphy, Daniel Craig, and Michelle Williams, Deadline reported. Paramount Pictures will handle the movie’s distribution, with Chazelle serving as the writer and director. He, along with Olivia Hamilton, will also produce the project through Wild Chickens Productions.

Insiders claim that the film takes place in a prison, and it’s rumored to draw inspiration from 1970s New Hollywood cinema, though no official plot details have surfaced. The production reportedly plans to begin filming in March 2026 in Greece. Chazelle reunites with composer Justin Hurwitz, and cinematographer Lol Crawley joins the project.

The newest cast addition, Mia Threapleton, recently featured opposite Benicio del Toro in The Phoenician Scheme. She also appears in the Apple TV+ series The Buccaneers, which finished its second season.

Deadline reported that Chazelle supervised the audition process for Threapleton’s role, continuing his practice of carefully casting pivotal characters, as he previously did with Diego Calva in Babylon. The report indicated that he spent an extended period evaluating candidates before selecting Threapleton.

Michelle Williams, who recently won a Golden Globe for FX’s Dying for Sex, is also part of the ensemble. Williams has five Oscar nominations and has appeared in The Fabelmans, Blue Valentine, and My Week With Marilyn. She is currently featuring on stage in Anna Christie at St. Ann’s Warehouse.

Cillian Murphy, who won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, and Daniel Craig, who featured in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, have joined the project. Craig’s recent credits include Queer.
