Deadpool 4: Ryan Reynolds’ MCU Movie Gets Exciting Update

Could Ryan Reynolds be plotting his MCU return as Wade Wilson? Here is the latest update for Deadpool 4.

What is the latest news on Deadpool 4?

According to Puck, Reynolds is “focused” on developing the next Deadpool movie as his next project. This news comes at a time when Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, is in a contentious legal battle with director Justin Baldoni over a sexual harassment complaint. As a result, he wants to be seen in one of his most beloved roles soon.

Reynolds’ MCU future is uncertain. Reynolds was not one of the many cast members announced for Avengers: Doomsday. There is speculation that he will appear in Doomsday and confront Reed Richards. However, nothing is confirmed as of now.

In July 2025, Variety reported that Marvel feels “no sense of urgency” in developing Deadpool 4. Instead, the studio is focused on releasing Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday in 2026.

In December 2024, Reynolds shared that he had some more ideas for Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU. However, none of them revolved around Wade as the central character.

“I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool,” Reynolds said. “He is a great supporting or ensemble player. And I would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way. Centering Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again. A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool, which is fulfilling and powerful.”

Reynolds last appeared as the Merc with a Mouth in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine was a team-up movie between Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. The MCU movie became an international sensation, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide. It’s the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
