While promoting his upcoming science-fiction film Mercy, Chris Pratt opened up about the long list of superhero roles he once pursued before landing his role as Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, the actor reflected on several early auditions that ultimately went nowhere.

Pratt explained that he tried out for several major superhero projects in the years before his Marvel breakthrough. He said he submitted recordings for both Superman and Captain America. “I think I put myself on for early Superman. I put myself on tape for Captain America. I auditioned to play a sidekick in Thor,” the actor recalled.

He added that most of them ended without follow-ups, saying, “And none of them did I even get a call back.” When Horowitz pressed him on whether he had made it into the room for any of those parts, Pratt clarified, “I got in the room to play the sidekick for Thor.”

Pratt also recalled his experience trying out for Zack Snyder’s Superman. He said he filmed the tape while staying at his mother’s house in Everett, Washington. “I even watched it and was like, ‘Dude, I would not cast that guy as Superman,’” he added. In the same interview, Pratt said he once jokingly sent James Gunn a photoshopped image of himself wearing a Batman mask. The actor explained, “I sent [James] a picture of myself with a Batman mask on. It was actually Photoshopped. He just said, ‘Haha.’ So, it’s safe to say I’m not going to be Batman.”
