Disney’s Biggest Movie Flop of 2025 Sets Hulu Release Date

20th Century Studios has announced the Hulu release date for the upcoming streaming debut of one of Disney’s biggest box office flops of 2025. Despite having an all-star cast, the political comedy-drama Ella McCay failed to capture the attention of critics and moviegoers. During its theatrical run, the movie only earned a gross of over $4.5 million at the box office against a reported budget of around $35 million.

“The story follows an idealistic young politician who juggles familial issues and a challenging work life while preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor,” reads the synopsis.

When is the Hulu release date for Ella McCay?

Ella McCay will be available for streaming on Hulu on February 5. In addition, the studio has also unveiled the movie’s digital and Blu-ray release dates. Ahead of its Hulu debut, the Emma Mackey-led dramedy will first be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting on January 27. Following the streaming debut, it will be available for purchase on Blu-ray on March 3.

Ella McCay was written and directed by James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment). This served as Brooks’ feature directorial comeback after a decade since 2010’s romantic comedy How Do You Know. The ensemble cast included Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Fearn, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, Albert Brooks, and Woody Harrelson. It was produced by Brooks, Julie Ansell, Jennifer Brooks, and Richard Sakai, with Seth Meier set as an executive producer.
