Leonardo DiCaprio Reacts to OBAA’s Surprising Oscars Snub: ‘She Carried This Film’
Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has opened up about the 13 Oscar nominations that One Battle After Another has just received. These include Best Picture, Best Director & Adapted Screenplay for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor, and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro.
Notably missing from the major nominees is lead star Chase Infiniti, who many felt was snubbed by the Oscars. For her acclaimed performance as Willa, she recently earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy. This served as her feature acting debut.
What did Leonardo DiCaprio say about Chase Infiniti’s Oscars snub?
In an interview with Deadline, DiCaprio shared his thoughts regarding Infiniti’s Oscars snub, revealing that he’s proud of the incredible work she’s done with her character. He believes that Infiniti will definitely have a bright career ahead.
“Chase was the heart and soul of this movie,” DiCaprio said. “And she’s going to have an incredible career ahead of her. She really carried this film, especially it being her first role in a feature film. I couldn’t have been more proud of her and the integrity and the intensity and the leadership that she brought to that character.”
In addition, the acclaimed actor also praised the rest of his co-stars and Anderson, expressing how grateful and proud he is of them.
DiCaprio added, “As for the others, what can I say? I got to work with an all-star cast. I was incredibly fortunate to work with so many people that I’ve looked up to for years in this industry, and it was an incredible experience. To work on this film with Paul and just to collaborate on a film that just feels so topical, man, it’s unbelievable. It has been so cool to be a part of this band, when you go out in the world and are able to talk about a film that you’re truly proud of. With actors that you’re so proud to work with and a story that you feel is important. We’ve been doing it for the past year, and there’s an ease to talking about something that you have such a genuine love and pride for. And that’s how I feel about this movie.”
One Battle After Another was written and directed by Anderson. The ensemble cast also featured Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Wood Harris, D.W. Moffett, John Hoogenakker, and more. The movie currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 431 reviews. It recently scored four major Golden Globe awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Director.
