Return to Silent Hill reviews aren’t great at all
Return to Silent Hill currently holds a 7% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 15 critic reviews.
Critics highlighted several concerns. Jesse Hassenger (The Guardian) rated the film 2/5, writing, “It turns out, making a horror movie where the hero is more casually curious (or oblivious) than scared is a tricky proposition.”
Justin Clark (Slant Magazine) gave it 0.5/4, stating the film “does away with all the psychosexual nuance of Silent Hill 2.” Matt Donato (Daily Dead) rated it 2/5, criticizing “poor performances, dismally edited storytelling, and fumbled fright-night entertainment.”
Avi Offer (NYC Movie Guru) described it as “an atmospheric, supernatural horror thriller that offers no surprises, thrills or palpable scares.” Robert Kojder (Flickering Myth) gave it 2.5/5, noting the director “understands Silent Hill so arrestingly and vividly when it comes to visual nightmare fuel” but “still doesn’t ‘get’ what he is adapting.”
Only one critic, Dominic Baez (Seattle Times), gave a fresh score of 2/4, observing, “It shouldn’t work, and it doesn’t a lot of the time, but there’s something compelling in how it all wraps up.”
